Before You Decide On Infant Bedding: Preparing Your Baby’s Room
No nursery can be complete without a crib, and no crib can be complete without the right crib bedding. Online stores often offer a much wider range of choices, so if you’re looking for a particular type of crib, hit Google and see what you can find. The bedding set you choose may not be the one that others like. You should also remember that with even an inexpensive crib set costing over $100, it’s important to keep your budget in mind. So before you start your search, try to have an idea of the theme and price range you’re looking for.
Are you having your first child? Are you thinking about having more? Then consider the future. For instance – are you having a girl? Then you’ve probably chosen a girl baby bedding set, covered with frills and pretty pinks, or maybe something trendier (but still very feminine), like Maya baby bedding. But you might have a boy next – and a feminine bedding set would look pretty weird in his nursery. When you think about the cost of a baby bedding set, unless you have a big budget, it’s much smarter to pick a gender neutral bedding set that you can use again and again. A bedding set can cost upwards of $1000, so set a budget before you start and stick to it. Ignore any bedding that is out of your budget. Baby is not going to care what brand of bedding you’ve bought, he’s far more concerned with his comfort.
Baby stores, even the large ones like Babies R Us, usually can’t offer the range of choices that an online-only store can, particularly when the ecommerce site is strictly focused on selling baby bedding. For example, while a web store may have 20, 30 or even more brands to choose from, most offline stores carry only a couple of brands. Some only have one. Even if you’re shopping at a big-box discounter, you may find that they can’t match the prices you’ll find online.
But you won’t be able to touch or handle the bedding before you buy it, which is one of the biggest problems with shopping online. If an online retailer describes a baby quilt as “soft”, how do you know what his definition of soft is? Is it more or less than your own? No matter how good a photograph is, it can never replace the real thing. To reduce frustration and wasted time, plan a budget and a general theme before you start looking online. Otherwise the range of options can bog you down.
